Describe the application rather than only its URL

A public URL is an entry point, not a complete scope. Explain the application's purpose, important customer journeys, administrative functions, payment or data flows and connected services. Identify whether the assessment covers one environment or several. A small-looking interface can contain complex business rules, while a larger site may repeat the same underlying control patterns.

List roles and meaningful workflows

Document the roles that can see or change different information, including staff, customer, supplier and administrator access where relevant. Count meaningful workflows rather than navigation links. For a multi-tenant application, explain the separation between organisations. Provide representative accounts and test records so the proposal can address authorisation and business logic rather than only unauthenticated observations.

Define API and integration boundaries

State whether the backend APIs are part of the application assessment or a separate component. Supply current documentation and identify third-party payment, identity, messaging or storage services. Permission to assess your application does not automatically cover those suppliers' infrastructure. Make the dependency boundary explicit so the quotation neither double-counts work nor silently excludes an important service.

Compare effort on a consistent basis

Ask how complexity, role count, testing depth, environment restrictions and preparation affect the price. Distinguish AI-enabled technical testing, human-led penetration testing and Combined delivery. Additional human investigation is separately scoped. A lower headline price may reflect a narrower boundary or a different delivery model, so compare the intended assurance and outputs before judging value.

Include the practical delivery costs

Clarify test-account preparation, allow-listing, availability of technical staff, reporting, debriefing and retesting. Agree how material scope changes are handled if documentation or functionality differs from the quotation. Explicit written authorisation, permitted methods and operational safety controls must be ready before active testing. Unavailable access can reduce the useful work achieved inside an agreed window.

Use current prices and record the decision

Follow the current Pentesys pricing journey for indicative figures and request a proposal for the actual application. Record included roles, workflows, endpoints, environments, exclusions and retest arrangements beside the price. Do not treat a historical article as a fixed quotation. The useful comparison is the evidence and coverage purchased for the stated scope, not an unexplained price per application.
